Minnesota State Capitol --  As the capitol city for the state of Minnesota, St. Paul's beautiful capitol building designed by Cass Gilbert is located close to the St. Paul Cathedral which is on the east end of the magnificent Summit Avenue.  For nearly five miles along Summit Avenue exists the longest stretch of residential Victorian architecture in the United States as well as numerous colleges, schools, large mansions, churches and synagogues. Houses along Summit Avenue were built between 1856 and 1880, and 85% remain in their original form. There is a mixture of styles among the homes. Beautiful historic apartment buildings can be found among the many old St. Paul neighborhoods that lie adjacent to Summit Avenue. 


National Historic District  - As you drive along Summit Avenue, you will view the  historic residences of James J. Hill, F. Scott Fitzgerald and Sinclair Lewis as well the Governor's Mansion. Summit Avenue, which is part of two National Historic Districts, runs from the Mississippi River on its west end to downtown St. Paul on its east end and if you drive the length of it, you will see the Saint Paul Seminary, the University of St. Thomas, Macalester College, the William Mitchell College of Law and the College of Visual Arts. The wide sidewalks on Summit Avenue give ample space for runners, rollerbladers and walkers. There is also a separate marked bike lane.


Arts, Culture & Sports -- St. Paul is home to a number of theaters, musuems and arts groups including the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts, the Schubert Club, the Science Museum of Minnesota, the Minnesota History Museum, the Minnesota Children's Museum, the History Theater, the Penumbra Theatre Company.  An active sports town as well, it is home to the Saint Paul Saints baseball team (co-owned by actor and comedian Bill Murray) and the Minnesota Wild hockey team.
