Crocus Hill / Summit Hill / Summit Avenue
Summit Avenue is the focal point for this beautiful and historic neighborhood. Summit Avenue was originally conceived as a broad boulevard to showcase mansions of the Gilded Age and has the longest stretch of Victorian Houses in the United States. At the east end of Summit lies the large and majestic Cathedral of St. Paul, which is the mother church of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis. Summit Hill is one of the more expensive neighborhoods in the Twin Cities. The neighborhood is well-maintained with restored historic mansions and manicured lawns and landscapes. Summit Avenue runs from the Mississippi River to the Saint Paul Cathedral and includes several colleges, a law school, haunted houses, the Governor's Mansion, and a variety of places of worship. Portions of the campuses of the William Mitchell School of Law, Macalester College and the University of St. Thomas are located on Summit Avenue.
Macalester-Groveland
This neighborhood includes the campuses of two colleges, Macalester and the University of St. Thomas, and the neighborhood thrives with young people and college faculty. It includes beautiful vistas of the Mississippi River along East River Road/Mississippi River Boulevard, and features walking and biking paths at the top of the 100 foot bluffs. Homes here have high property values and there are also a large number of well-maintained apartments.
Highland Park
This neighborhood is home to St. Catherine's University and two private preparatory schools, Cretin-Durham Hall High School and St. Paul Academy and Summit School. Along Ford Parkway, which runs from the Mississipppi River to Snelling Avenue, there are a number of shops, and restaurants as well as a Lifetime Fitness facility.
Grand Avenue:
Grand Avenue runs parallel to Summit Avenue and features boutique shops, restaurants and pubs and sidewalks coffee houses and cafes. Also along Grand Avenue are a number of lovely apartment buildings, a Whole Food grocery store and a movie theater. In close proximity to Macalester College, the University of St. Thomas and St. Catherine's University, it is a popular area for young adults to live and shop. The first Sunday of June on Grand Avenue is the site of the largest one day outdoor festival in the Midwest.
