"Online Marketing Heroes: Interviews with 25 Successful Online Marketing Gurus" Features Joan Holman as One of Today's Top Online Marketing Experts

This NEW Book Is Now Available at Amazon.com or in bookstores nationwide

Dear Entrepreneur, Business Owner, or Marketing Professional,

Way back in 1995, my husband, who is a techie kind of guy, suggested that I start offering online marketing services to my existing clients.

I was providing traditional and guerrilla marketing services for a number of businesses and I was starting to use the Internet to promote my own business. I had created my own web site and was playing around with getting to the top of the search engines for specific keywords.

At first, it was really a challenge to get people to see the value in having a web site. Or in doing any kind of online marketing.

So I had to start educating people about online marketing. I gave speeches and presentations to lots of groups. I was interviewed on television and radio, in magazines, newspapers and trade publications.

To become knowledgeable and learn new skills, I immersed myself in the online world and studied tons of books, magazines, articles and trade publications about the Internet, web design, online marketing and so on. I also learned HTML (hypertext markup language) so I could develop web sites.

ONE OF MY EARLY SUCCESSES
I got my web site to the top of the search engines for the keywords "Oprah" and "Oprah Winfrey." Although not at the top anymore since you are competing with anywhere from 4-6 million listings on Google for her name, I still get traffic from the search engines to my online article about my personal encounter with Oprah.

OVER 200,000 HOURS ONLINE
Quite frankly, I became a bit of an Internet addict and you could often find me staying up at all hours of the night surfing online and having a lot of fun connecting with others just as excited as I was about this new medium of communication. I must confess that since my early days online to the present, I have probably logged well over 200,000 hours online. And I'm still loving it!

MY DOTCOM ADVENTURE
Along the way, I ended up as an independent consultant with a dotcom start-up in San Francisco called MizBiz.com. I had the title of "Director of the Technology Advisor Network." The company was funded by some very big names in the technology industry and it was exciting. And I was sure I was going to ride the Internet boom to the top with MizBiz.com. Unfortunately, the dotcom boom turned into a dotcom bust and MizBiz.com did not survive. (See the historical archived Web site announcing the launch of MizBiz.com).

OPPORTUNITIES THROUGH ONLINE MARKETING
Online visibility can bring unforeseen opportunities. I have had many such opportunities. Someone will just find me online and e-mail me or call me on the phone, and boom, something exciting happens. A speaking engagement. Being featured in a book. Getting interviewed for a publication. Getting an interesting new client. An example is someone who contacted me to be involved in an historic and inspiring book project involving some very noteworthy women, including Camille Cosby, the wife of actor and comedian Bill Cosby. However, for every great opportunity, I have to screen out a lot of nonproductive inquiries, but this is just part of the marketing process.

GET SMART ABOUT ONLINE MARKETING
The truth is, success with online marketing does not come easily. It takes consistent, ongoing effort to build success and get opportunities. So many people I meet are very ignorant about the online world and what it really takes to succeed with online marketing. And it has become more competitive as the big companies have poured huge amounts of dollars into their online marketing. But if a smaller company or an individual really wants to use the Internet to help them succeed, there still is a lot of opportunity. I would suggest that you read Chapter 1 from the book Online Marketing Heroes which features an interview with me. It gives some very good background and examples, and some tips to help you with online marketing.

GET SMART ABOUT YOUR WEBSITE
I have viewed tens of thousands of web sites. I have analyzed over 2,500 Web sites. I have also personally developed or managed the development of many web sites. I have also consulted to many businesses that have developed web sites that are not working well. I have had the unpleasant task of informing them, after a brief usability study, that their target audience cannot view the web site, or use the web site, or that their web site is not visible in the search engines. Then I have to oversee trying to fix the web site, or in some situations, tell them to completely re-do their web site, guided by my recommendations. If you have a web site, you should find out how well it is working for your customers and prospective customers. And you may need to improve it so you get better results.

ENGAGING MY SERVICES
Although I am known for my expertise as an online marketing consultant, I also consult on business development, branding, book development and book marketing and a number of other areas. However, in today's world, the Internet is an integral part of almost all marketing, communications, public relations and business activity, and so my background with the Internet is invaluable no matter what area in which I consult. I work with a nationale clientele, and most of my work is on a retainer or project basis, however, I am also available on a limited basis for some individual consultations. If you are interested in learning more about how we might be able to work together, please feel free to contact me.

To your success,
