  • Get A Niche for Business Success

For success, GET A NICHE. This is especially important if you want to do business on the Internet. There are now over 4 billion pages on the World Wide Web!

Think about how you are going to stand out from the crowd. For success, find a narrow niche market and then find or create products and services for that market. Example --- car enthusiasts--- a very strong niche market. Corey Rudl makes lots of money with the products he created for this market - check out his Car Secrets Web site.Just remember that Corey was not an overnight success. He worked really hard and had many failures with his various Web sites. He learned by trial and error, and now he grosses over $5 million with his Web sites.

The Web is perfect for narrow niche markets since it now reaches over 200 million people globally and this is going to continue to grow. It is estimated that there will be 1 billion with online access by the year 2005.

"Eliminating the competition (without bloodshed), distinguishing your business from everyone else's, and getting the right customers clamoring for your product or service in any economy are the most basic requirements for business success today," states Dr. Lynda Falkenstein, author of the book Nichecraft.

I highly recommend this book for anyone, whether they work for someone else or have their own company. Dr. Falkenstein says that it is crucial to determine who you are and who you are not and that you do not try to be all things to all people.

Crafting and refining a good niche is an ongoing process, and because change is inevitable, re-niching is also part of the process.

PLEASE NOTE: As a marketing consultant, I can help you develop your "unique selling proposition" and your niche. A USP is vital to your business success. A business must position itself properly to take advantage of marketing niches. Your USP is what sets you apart from other competitors. Some companies position themselves as having the largest selection or the lowest price, or the highest quality. Some companies many emphasize more expertise, more assistance, great personalized service. Some may emphasize great follow-up or customer service. A USP and a niche are especially important in the Age of the Internet. With millions of web sites offering so many choices, you must think carefully about how you will compete.

In defining your niche, (which is broader that a USP), you need to know who your target audience is, who your target audience is not, your specific style or approach, and what is special about your approach.
