101 Ways to Promote Yourself / Tricks of The Trade for Taking Charge of Your Own Success by Visibility Marketing Expert
from the book by Raleigh Pinsky

I met her on the Internet. She visited my web site and sent me an e-mail. Then, since I was going to be in Los Angeles, where she resides, I took up her invitation to meet with her. She's a dynamic, perky lady with many accomplishments and lots of savvy. She's Raleigh Pinsky and she specialzies in making entrepreneurs, small businesses and entertainers visible and prosperous. Her clients have included such celebrities as Paul McCartney, David Bowie, Sting, Herbie Mann.

101 Ways to Promote Yourself, published in 1997, offers great advice about promoting yourself and your business. One of the memorable things that Raleigh teaches, which she learned from her father, is "If you don't ask, you don't get. You don't always get for what you ask, but if you don't ask, you don't get."

Some of the keys from her book include:

    1. name your business with great care - the name of your business is important because it is your brand identity and it can raise you above your competition

    2. a memorable logo adds to your marketability by establishing brand or name recognition and adds to the image you are trying to build

    3. an effective business card is arguably the most valuable marketing tool you can have in building a business - tip: don't use ALL CAPITAL LETTERS. THEY'RE TOO DIFFICULT TO READ. Picture business cards are powerful because a photo helps someone connect with you personally-it is easier to connect your face with an encounter

    4. create a mailing list of clients, customers and prospects - set up a database to keep track of these contacts, generate mailing labels, lists, etc.

    5. write articles because it puts you at the top of the experts' list, it reaches many prospects in one effort, and it gives you name recognition. Trade and consumer publications take articles - Writer's Digest Books (found in the bookstore or library) gives you addresses of publications and tells you how to submit articles

    6. sit on the boards of organizations and associations - it expands your network, enhances your reputation and can bring opportunities.

PLEASE NOTE: If you already have a web site, I am available as a consultant to analyze your web site and make suggestions for improvements. If you do not have a web site yet, I can develop one that incorporates design and content geared to the culture and constraints of the Internet. People go to the Internet for information so content is critical.
