Canada Labor Negotiations

  • At 11:59 on Sunday, October 29 Unifor went on strike at Stellantis’ Ontario assembly plants. The strike was ended hours later, at approximately 8:00am.
  • The afternoon of October 10th, Unifor reached a tentative agreement with GM ending the strike that started at midnight.
  • On October 9th, 11:59pm Unifor went on strike at three GM facilities after failing to reach a new deal. The strike affects 4,300 workers at 3 plants:
    • Oshawa Assembly & Operations, which make engines for a variety of vehicles, powertrains for the Chevrolet Equinox and Corvette, and engine component parts
    • St. Catharines Propulsion Plant
    •  Woodstock Parts Distribution Centre
  • On September 28th, Unifor informed GM the deadline to secure a tentative agreement similar to that reached with Ford is Monday, October 9th 11:59pm.
  • On September 19th, Unifor and Ford reached a tentative agreement on a three-year contract. The agreement still needs to be ratified by the union, but Unifor’s president said that the tentative contract addressed all of the items raised by its members.
  • Unifor had extended its contracts with General Motors and Stellantis so it could focus on negotiations with Ford. If the deal with Ford is ratified by the union, it will become a blueprint for agreements with the other two OEMs.
