Return of the Month III

A car shape cut out of a euro bill

Who would have thought that our Return of the Month feature would be such a hit? We have received another fine example of a final lease statement. This one also has to do with an impact, more precisely a stone impact, and how it should be assessed. We all have the earworm from the well-known commercial in our ears: “Carglass repairs, Carglass replaces.” If you can’t sing along with this jingle, then you must not have a TV or a radio. And the best thing is that because of this spot, everyone knows that a smart repair can be had starting at 129 euros, gross—for end customers.

Anyone currently working in, let’s say, fleet management knows that a shrewd intervention, even with a premium provider like Carglass, costs under 100 euros for commercial customers. However, the lessor managing this customer’s lease sees it differently. The comment “Windshield stone impact, smart repair” was recorded in the final report—202.52 euros, net charge (reduction in value).

Wait a minute, that’s . . . we have to do the math . . . almost 100 euros more than the price for private customers! Maybe it wasn’t just one impact, but two, and therefore costs twice as much. Or a peppering of impacts—that would be even more expensive. The customer who submitted the story called the leasing company, and lo and behold, they reduced the price by over half. Naturally, the customer immediately agreed and pocketed the savings.

Our tip: Financing options in which only the actual sales value counts, and not a checklist of set reductions, are always available. One such option is described in more detail here.
