Study Confirmed: Fleet Management Is Becoming Increasingly Demanding

The Dataforce Fleet Management Study 2024 shows that fleet management has become significantly more complex in recent years. Companies face significantly greater challenges than they did a few years ago. Not surprising for many fleet owners, right? However, this is also expressed in numbers: according to the experts, nine out of ten tasks by fleet managers of large fleets have become more demanding and extensive in recent years. 83% of fleet managers and even 93% of large fleet managers share this view. The study underscores the growing complexity of fleet management and the need to continually adapt and evolve to meet increasing demands.

Changes in the Legal Framework

Many managers say the constantly changing legal requirements are a key obstacle. The Dataforce study states, “Laws and reporting requirements around data protection, CO2 and co. are changing regularly, and fleet owners must stay up to date to keep processes in the organization compliant.”

Electrification of the Fleet

The experts also point out the electrification of the fleet presents another challenge and increases the complexity of the work. In addition to purchasing electric vehicles, planning the charging infrastructure, and training the drivers is also crucial. Here is a list of the challenges for the electric fleets and how to address them.

Variety of New Vehicle Models and Propulsion Technologies

Many of our customers express concerns about the variety of new vehicle models and types of propulsion – often an overall overview is quite difficult to obtain. The result of the study: Rarely, the right model with both the right drive and the preferred manufacturer is directly available. Consequently, the fleet managers surveyed rank procurement as one of the most time-consuming activities. For tips on how to save time and money when sourcing, see this article.

Claims and Maintenance

Everyone in our business knows this: claims management also takes a lot of time. It requires documentation of vehicle damage, notification of insurance, and coordination of repairs and replacement vehicles. In addition, organizing workshop services is cited by experts as another time-consuming process that includes not only maintenance and inspections, but also tire replacement. Our Holman experts give a valuable tip on the topic of maintenance and damage strategy here.

Digital Solutions

To optimally manage the prevailing complexity of fleets, in 2024, 22% of Dataforce’s surveyed owners already use digital solutions, while 56% in large fleets of 50+ cars. According to the study, not only can the systems improve efficiency, but also integrate sensibly into holistic cost and environmental management. About 60% of fleet managers consider it essential to efficiently manage total cost of ownership.
