Every two years, the IAA Transportation in Hanover brings together the leading innovators of the commercial vehicle industry. These are the key facts, products and developments from IAA Transportation 2026 that every fleet manager should know.

Electric mobility has officially gone mainstream in urban delivery operations

While heavy-duty trucks still face challenges with long-haul charging infrastructure, smaller vans and light commercial vehicles are making significant progress through increased range, flexible vehicle concepts and innovative last-mile solutions. Noteworthy launches and concepts included:

• The Kia PV7 featuring 800-volt fast-charging technology.
• The cost-efficient Fiat Doblò EasyPRO.
• The Smart Compact Van, a highly flexible concept vehicle designed for mobile professionals, featuring a foldable passenger seat that doubles as a workstation and modular partition walls.
• The Fiat TRIS, designed for the narrowest city streets. The electric three-wheeler offers a 6.9 kWh battery, a range of up to 90 kilometres, space for two Euro pallets, fixed doors and charging via any standard household power outlet.
• Stellantis showcased the BOW (Box-on-Wheels), a fully autonomous and electric logistics solution developed together with UQI Robotics for emission-free delivery zones, industrial sites and healthcare facilities.

According to Karin Rådström, CEO of Daimler Truck, Europe will require at least 35,000 public charging points for electric trucks by 2030 to meet anticipated demand. The reality is very different: fewer than 2,000 public charging points across the European Union are currently suitable for heavy-duty trucks, and only 730 of those qualify as high-power chargers delivering more than 350 kW. Rådström summarised the challenge: “Our customers are generally ready to invest in electric trucks. However, they hesitate because they cannot be certain that charging infrastructure will be available wherever they need it.”

Chinese manufacturers are also dominating the electric truck market

A recent PwC study highlights that China currently accounts for 95% of the global electric truck market, while Europe is losing ground. According to Jörn Neuhausen, Head of Electromobility: “China is currently transferring its successful electric passenger vehicle model to the logistics sector. The country benefits from economies of scale, accumulated expertise and highly developed supply chain capabilities built over decades.”
