Supply Chain Trends & Order-to-Delivery Times

After several years of severe disruptions, the vehicle supply chain finally stabilized in 2024. The overall supply of new vehicles improved dramatically and most manufacturers have returned to normal factory ordering for virtually all models. As the supply chain normalizes, most fleet operators are able to leverage improved vehicle availability to get vehicle lifecycles back on track as they continue to optimize fleet operations.

Recently, Holman’s Patrick Doyle spoke with Automotive Fleet to examine the latest supply chain conditions and offer his insight on how order-to-delivery (OTD) times are trending as fleet ordering season kicks into high gear. In the article, Patrick noted that overall order-to-delivery times continue to improve, a trend that is likely to continue as we head into 2026.

“Both production lead time and transportation time are lower across nearly all vehicle segments. Given current supply chain conditions, Holman anticipates this trend will continue to gain momentum throughout the remainder of the year and early indications point to further improvements to OTD times in 2026. ”

As overall OTD times continue to improve, Patrick says fleet operators should still be proactive in factory ordering and expect – and plan accordingly – for lengthy lead times. For factory-order vehicles without upfitting, plan for four- to six-month lead times. For vehicles with upfitting, Patrick recommends a minimum of eight to twelve months, potentially longer for units that require complex upfitting. He also cautioned that fleet operators should continue to adhere to ordering best practices to ensure their fleet is well positioned to withstand unforeseen disruptions.

“The automotive supply chain is extremely complex, relying on a multitude of factors to flow seamlessly, and even minor disruptions could quickly result in unexpected delays.”
